Looking for good after Christmas deals? Here are the top 5 things that I stock up on each year to get bottom dollar prices and simplify life and gift giving throughout the year.
Christmas is over so we can relax now, right? If you are like me, I try to take advantage of big sales that I can count on whenever they come up. The sales after each holiday are prime times to stock up. After Christmas however is where I find the BEST deals.
So, what do I look for?
Gift Wrap
Just because we just had Christmas doesn’t mean that you can only buy Christmas themed wrapping paper. I usually stock up on anything with stripes or solid colors. Compliment it with a big bow, and you have birthday wrapping paper for the entire year bought at half price. Oftentimes things are marked down simply because they were on the shelf next to Christmas items, or because they are marketed specifically for Christmas. I bought a huge thing of white tissue paper that I am still using two years later!
Seasonal Clothing
Most stores will mark down their children’s formal wear after the holidays. We generally buy church clothes for the kids after Christmas and Easter to last them the entire year. If you like Christmas themed outerwear, socks, pajamas, etc. now is the time to purchase those. Because clothing doesn’t have an expiration date, you could even buy bigger sizes in anticipation for Christmas gifts for next year!
Hygiene Items
You know those amazing gift packs that can sometimes be over priced just because it’s Christmas? We buy a few of the ones with lotion, lip balms, body wash, etc. and give them as birthday gifts throughout the year. We don’t give the entire gift basket, but open a few and mix and match them. If there is a specific scent of men’s deodorant and body wash, half price is a great price to buy those at!
Candy
If you haven’t already made your New Year’s Resolutions, go out and buy the Christmas candy and treats! You could even ration the candy out to be more festive. Eat all the silver wrapped candies now, save the reds for Valentine’s day, and the greens for St. Patrick’s Day. Or, if you are like me, you will keep them in the freezer and pull them out over the next few months, weeks, days.
Toys
The best purchase item that you can get after Christmas in my opinion is toys. There are usually a couple shelves or aisles of toys that are clearanced out after Christmas. There were a couple years in a row that I bought all my kids birthday presents for the year right after Christmas. That was a VERY effective way to reduce my stress throughout the year.
