Now that Halloween is over, we can officially talk Christmas, right? If you are looking to get some extra cash before Christmas, I have the solution for you!

Trying to earn money with little ones in tow is nearly impossible. There are so many work from home jobs that seem to just be total scams. I had read enough reviews about Rev.com though, that I was willing to try it out.

What is Rev?

You know how you can see the words along the bottom of movies or YouTube videos? That’s one of the things that Rev does. Rev.com is an online company that hires people to do transcription, captions and subtitles, and translation.

I’m not an expert on all things Rev, but I have worked doing transcription for a little over a month now.

Here are Some of the Perks:

Nothing Up Front

You don’t have to pay to get started. There is no necessary equipment except a computer with internet capabilities. You can purchase headphones and a transcribing foot pedal, but I don’t have either of those and have done just fine.

No Contract

This is one of the biggest perks for me. While I don’t make a steady income from Rev, I also don’t have to guilt myself into working or not working. This is something that I have been able to do from home during quiet time and at nights while my husband studies. There have been weeks where I have worked quite a bit, but other weeks where things came up and I wasn’t able to work as much. Because there is no contract, there is no penalty to how much or how little you work.

Consistent Payments

I can easily track my earnings through the Rev website. I set up a PayPal account and am paid on every Monday. It doesn’t get better than that! I usually work on the smaller projects each day so that I can for sure finish before my kids wake up from nap and I don’t have a project deadline hanging over my head. I only choose projects I know I can complete in one sitting.

Learning New Things

This is probably one of my favorite things so far. I work in the transcription end of Rev, so it is mostly interviews or recorded phone calls that I have transcribed. Hearing different people’s opinions on current events, learning about new things I had never heard of before, and researching groups and programs that are available has been super fun! I feel like I am a more well-rounded individual because of the things I have learned.

What is the Pay?

I know this is the question of the day before people decide to try out something that will take up more of their time. For a stay at home mom looking to make some extra cash, it is great. It’s nothing compared to a part-time job, but the convenience is worth it to me. I had heard from many reviews that it took them a few months to move from Rookie to Revver, but it didn’t take me nearly that long. I also heard that people who weren’t able to get into transcription were able to get into the subtitles, but the pay is a little less. The pay I have received has been very accurate according to this pay scale.

How do you Apply?

When you go to the Rev website, you can fill out a simple application. There is a typing test and a grammar test that you take. Nothing too crazy, just basic English. Make sure you have a quiet, uninterrupted space to work in because they will also give you a transcription test to take. After taking the test, it takes about 48 hours to find out if you have been accepted or not.

Once you get accepted, you will be a Rookie. To move up, you have a pick of shorter transcription projects. These are not always the most fun or the most clear jobs to transcribe, but if you can make it past Rookie, there is a greater variety of jobs to choose from with higher pay. Like I said, I usually stick with the shorter projects during nap time and work on longer projects at night.

All in all, it doesn’t pay a ton, but a little bit is better than nothing. We have some great goals as to what to do with the extra money. I figure that right now, anything I can make in a way that is not having a negative impact on my family works for me. I could be binge watching Netflix at night, but instead I am learning new things and making money while learning!

Good luck! Let me know about your experience with Rev!
