I love pies, especially apple pie. The downside is, I’m pretty picky about my pie crust. I love homemade, but get frustrated if it isn’t just right. I happen to also love crisps, crumbles, strudels, basically anything combining sugar and butter. So, why not combine the two?

In the perfect marriage of the above mentioned crisps, crumbles, and strudels I introduce: the Apple Dessert!

I seriously tried to think of a different name, but we’ve been calling it “Apple Dessert” for years now and that would be like renaming a 2-year-old child!

As with most of my recipes, I whipped out my good old Betty Crocker cookbook and combined the apple pie filling with the french apple pie minus the pie crust and voila! Our favorite dessert was born.

Here’s how to make it:

First, make the apple pie filling. I usually premake apple pie filling and keep it the freezer so I can make this dessert super quick.

If you are looking to prepare apple pie in advance for the holidays, here's a simple way to whip up apple pie filling in bulk and always have it on hand!

Next, combine flour, sugar and butter.

Mix that up until the butter is in fine crumbles.

Spread the thawed apple dessert in the bottom of a greased 8×8 pan and sprinkle the crumb topping all over the top.
