The day has finally arrived! My blog is now official! This has been quite the project to undertake and has been a much steeper learning curve than I ever thought possible. This blog is still very much a work in progress and will evolve and grow over time.
So, why did I start this blog?
As a mother, there are so many questions that I have, and it seems hard to find other people that are in my same position that can understand what I am going through, or that can offer tips and advice for my specific circumstances. Having 5 children ages 1-8 is kind of a circus most days. I feel like I am constantly searching for organization tips, family friendly recipes, and other helpful hints to raise these children.
Why is my blog called Maintaining Motherhood?
This is kind of a long answer, but here goes:
The word “maintain” has many excellent dictionary definitions.
- To keep in existence or continuance; preserve; retain. We keep hearing about the Peter Pan generation and people not wanting to grow up and have families. I will be the first to tell you it is HARD work. Really hard work. But it is so rewarding too! As mothers band together, we can help to keep in existence not only motherhood, but purposeful parenting.
- To affirm; assert; declare. to keep or hold against attack. My desire to be a mother is not going to change, but I need to be reassured that I am doing well. I am a walking advertisement for motherhood both the good and the bad. Just as people can make less than appropriate comments to those with no children, the same can be expected for people with many children, or children close together. I want to proclaim that motherhood is good, but that we need to encourage others around us whatever their circumstance.
- To sustain or support. Not only do we as human beings need to assist each other, but just like in the airplane safety demonstration, we need to sustain or support ourselves before we can help each other. I have tried my best over the years to maximize my time to include ways to restore my mental health and keep my hobbies alive. I want my children to see me spending time and working on my passions, but not to the extent that my family suffers because of those hobbies.
This blog will give you a little insight into our crazy life, but hopefully there is someone out there who is seeking for the same advice and encouragement that I am and can benefit. If nothing else, this is my record of not only surviving, but thriving as a mother.
